>Let’s Laugh at England Again

Posted by Barrie on June 29, 2010

>Disclaimer: Me no Germany fan. Me just like to poke fun at arrogant over-rated England Team.

Here is a recap of the 4 goals Germany scored against them in the Round of 16.

Goal #1

Look at how pathetic the English defence is. It began with Germany’s goalkick. The ball was picked by Klose and although he had John Terry and Mathew Upson with him, he still managed to outrun and outpace them to score. Take a look at Terry’s face at the 0:50 min mark, trying to gasp for air. Poor aging Terry couldn’t keep up with Klose.

Goal #2

Ha ha. More embarrassment for England. Look at the pass to Muller and how he went past England’s back four. Then how when England defenders paid attention to Muller, they left Podolski unmarked on the left…to score.

Screenshot Sequence 1 of Goal #2

Muller (circled) on the nearside while Podolski (squared) on the farside. The ball is with the German player at the bottom of the screen. Look at the amount of empty space in the centre of the English half! The Germans noticed it, but not the English.

Screenshot Sequence 2 of Goal #2

Muller bursts with a rush into the empty space and the pass is made to him. Poor England’s back four are only beginning to start their engines, trying to play catch up with Muller speeding like a bullet train.

Screenshot Sequence 3 of Goal #2

Muller passes England’s back four with such ease and has 1/3 of the field all to himself. Note Podolski on the far left baring down on the English defence – and the English didn’t notice him. Yeah, they’re too concerned about Muller.

Screenshot Sequence 4 of Goal #2

Look at the amount of ground Muller has covered! Right up to the penalty box. Podolski still unmarked! What were the English thinking? And what’s that English defender doing at the left of the screen? Taking a stroll instead of running back to help? Even the referee makes an attempt to keep up with Muller, so why is that English defender not making an effort to close in?

Screenshot Sequence 5 of Goal #2

Three English defenders close in on Muller but not on Podolski. Muller unselfishly passes for Podolski to score. Where is England’s 4th defender? Oh yes, he’s still taking his dog for a walk in the park and now is so far behind, the camera can’t even capture him on screen.

Screenshot Sequence 6 of Goal #2

Ah yes, finally! The 4th defender appears behind Podolski. He has decided to ditch his dog for the moment. Oh-oh, too late. It is now a one-to-one situation between Podolski and Butter Finger James.

Goal #3

I like this one because it started with a freekick to ENGLAND. Lampard’s shot hit the wall, England lost possession and Germany scored. England thought they could equalize, but instead, went down by another goal. Haha. Again, it was all due to their inability to defend.

Screenshot Sequence 1 of Goal #3

(Reverse Angle Shot from behind England’s Goal)
This is the German break. Muller (circled) sees Schweinsteiger (squared) on his left, makes pass across the field. Note the position of last English defender. English defence still not breached. But not for long….

Screenshot Sequence 2 of Goal #3

The ball sails to Schweinsteiger. Look at how far the English defence has fallen behind, leaving only one defender to handle Schweinsteiger. Also note how Muller has the whole right flank all to himself!

Screenshot Sequence 3 of Goal #3

The English defence closes in on Schweinsteiger, but leaves Muller totally unmarked! Again, where is the 4th English defender? Marking the referee?

Screenshot Sequence 4 of Goal #3

So now three English defenders have boxed up Schweinsteiger. But Muller is still unmarked! Swcheinsteiger sees Muller unmarked and makes a pass to him.

Screenshot Sequence 5 of Goal #3

Now the English defenders notice Muller – after he has received the ball at the edge of the penalty box, unobstructed with only David James to beat.

Goal #4

Again, England lost possession then allowed the Germans to break and score. Looks like the English defenders have no legs to run and keep up with the Germans.

That’s it. Four goals for us to laugh at England.

Germany could have whopped England further. But I guess they didn’t want to risk injury and/or yellow cards.

>England the Over-rated team deservedly gets booted out

Posted by Barrie on June 28, 2010

>I distinctly remember Germany beat England 4-1 last night. Since when did UK play?

Screenshot taken from ST’s website, dated 28 Jun 2010.

Now that the team I love to hate has been eliminated, allow me to gloat how badly England plays – both on and off the field that is.

Ever since 1966, England has always been giving excuses, excuses and more excuses for not being able to win any titles. If it is not about the refereeing, it is about how the other team uses illegal means. If it is not that, it is the pitch. If it is not that, it is the ball. If it is not that….it is something else.

It is always about why England lost because of outside factors. How about saying England lost because the other team was better? Or even more truthfully, England lost because they don’t have the character to make it?

Come on, it is no use to have a talented striker who can’t score (Rooney). Or a striking midfielder who is known to score goals from outside the box during BPL matches, but balloons it during World Cup games (Gerrard). Or an always dependable defender for Chelsea, but has no legs to outpace the Germans (Terry). Perhaps the only English player who was up to par was Lampard. But in football, you need 11 players, not one.

Saw how cool the Germs were? Haha. That’s teaching the English how to play. No, I am not a German fan. I am just out to mock over-rated England.

England’s woes did not just happen. It has been etched in history that they are a team to be laughed at. Remember how freekick specialist Beckam balloons penalties that would have made John Wilkinson (English Rugby Player) proud? Remember how English goalies let in goals that would make even schoolboys blush? Let’s take a look at this training video for schoolboys – Beckham Style!

David Beckham penalty

Wilkinson: Ball. I kick it over the bar, England wins.
Beckham: Ball. I kick it over the bar, England wii…. oopsie!

Oh yes, if you thought miskicks by England makes England misses goals, how about misckicks that cause England to concede goals?

FOOT BUT ROBINSON – GOAL – MISTAKE – FUNNY-

Talking about goalkeeping, remember how Maradona the shorty managed to outhand Shilton the tall guy, and kicked England out? English fans decry how that goal was illegal. I laugh at how a tall goalkeeper like Shilton couldn’t outjump shorty Maradona.

Look at how pathetic Shilton is, not even willing to work to get that ball, judging how his feet are hardly off the ground – compared to Maradona’s high jump.

No, it wasn’t the hand of God that beat England. It was England’s goalkeeper not working hard enough to get that ball.

The only way to win titles is to play well. Not blaming outside factors. France and Italy blamed no one but themselves when they were booted out. Even giants Brazil and Argentina gave no excuses when they lost past world cup games. But they bounced back.

Note that true champions do not carry the baggage of the past. Did Germany wallow in self-pity when they lost to a controversial goal in the Finals of 1966 to England? Did they cry foul when they lost 5-1 to England? Nope. They carried on to build a great team.

To me, England is a pathetic team, trying to portray that it is a world class team. Sorry, England, true champions perform on the pitch. Not off the pitch, gloating when they win and moaning when they lose.

Oh, finally, even the 1966 win was a controversial one. England had a controversial goal allowed, which enabled England to win the title against Germany by 4-2.

World Cup 1966 – Goal by Geoff Hurst – In or Out?

English fans claim that had Lampard’s goal been allowed last night because the ball crossed the goal line, the result may be different. How about bringing back memories and say that the result of the Final World Cup 1966 match might have been different too, if England’s goal had not been allowed, because the ball NEVER did cross the line?

Nope, England will never say that for 1966 but I am sure they will keep citing the 2010 disallowed goal by Lampard for many more years to come. That’s why England will continue to lose. Compare that to Germany or other great teams. They don’t moan past events. They do the talking on the pitch.

That’s why great teams keep winning and England keeps losing.

>Living Legend – Socrates (World Cup 1982)

Posted by Barrie on June 13, 2010

>One of the most memorable goals I have seen in the World Cup series is the match in 1982 between Brazil and USSR (The former Soviet Republic). This goal was scored by Socrates, a living legend – not only because he was a skillful player, he also holds a PhD, on top of being a Medical Doctor.

Watch Socrates’ goal.

About Socrates
Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, MD, Ph.D (born February 19, 1954 in Belém do Pará, Brazil), more commonly known simply as Sócrates, is a former Brazilianfootballer. He was an excellent assister and team organiser, with great through passes and vision of the field. He was also a two-footed player, a prolific goal scorer, and has been described as the most rugged footballer of the Cold War era. His ability to read the game was highly valued, and his signature move was the blind heel pass.

Sócrates is a doctor of medicine, a rare achievement for a professional footballer (he is a graduate of the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto). Even rarer is the fact that he earned the degree while concurrently playing professional football. There are persistent rumours that Sócrates turned out for the University College Dublin.

He is also noted for being an intellectual (he holds a doctorate degree in philosophy), a heavy drinker and smoker, and for his height (193 cm, 6 ft 4 in). His brother Raí was a member of the Brazilian national team that won the World Cup in 1994 and played for São Paulo and for Paris St. Germain.

Incidentally, Brazil won the match 2-1.

Watch how Socrates dummies the ball and leaves it for his teammate, Eder, to score Brazil’s winning goal.
