>What is hate speech, which is to be differentiated from opinion?
An opinion becomes hate speech when the statement the opinion giver laces his statement with hate words against a community.
In this blog, we have a consistent hate propagator, lacing his sentences with derogatory terms against specific communities. Here is an example. Below is my email notification which Beast (who goes by many other nicks, as well as “Anonymous”) posted on this blog.
Note the highly inflammatory statement against Christians -
As for the Jesus (*** expletive starting with letter “f”) christ thing, that’s a normal statement which westerners use all the time. You can’t nail me with that one. You can try though.
The best you can do is try and prove I am yong wah with those YPAP reports. You will fail though.
This spammer has also made derogatory and inflammatory statements against other societies like celebrating Muslims killed in the Mid East. Note that in his statement above, he was trying to justify he “didn’t hate Islam” because he said “the religion”, which does not specificially mean Islam.
But it was Islam that we were discussing, such that when he said he “hates ‘the religion’ “, it meant Islam – the religion we were discussing! Once again, his words betray his deep seated hate for certain societies.
That is hate.
Opinions however do not contain inflammatory or derogatory words and terms to imply a certian society. Hence, my posts on what Zionists do, is no different from posts on what Nazis did.
It is not hate if we talk about the apartheid policies of South Africa. Likewise when we talk about apartheid that’s occurring in Israel. But it would be hate if we use derogatory words to describe the Germans or Israelis.
It is not without justification that Singapore has laws against such seditious posts as above, which was posted by Beast. However, I have learned to live with the hate I am receiving, especially from this spammer.
I am not the only blog admin who is facing the issue of hate posts. Tan Kin Lian has been posting about what has been happening in the Insurance Industry. He doesn’t use inflammatory statements against any party. He simply highlights cases of fraud. Yet, he receives many hate posts with inflammatory words against him.
That is hate too.
