Alan Shadrake, the guy who used Singapore (and PAP stupidly obliged) as a marketing tool to advertise and publicise his otherwise “no one gives a bloody hoot” book, Once a Jolly Dangman, er I mean, Hangman. Shadrake’s trial was a bloody waste of time and resource
Human rights activists and anti-death penalty campaigners herald him a hero. I call him a miserly freeloader who is too stingy to pay for his own marketing and advertisement. He used Singapore’s tax payers’ money to promote his worthless book by getting all the unwarranted publicity.
Now if this Shad-rake-your-money-off-your-pockets-to-advertise-his-book guy is truly serious about the death penalty, why doesn’t he try a country where much lighter crimes end up with the criminal being executed?
Saudi beheads man for attack on woman
RIYADH – SAUDI authorities have beheaded a man convicted of attacking a woman and snapping nude photos of her in order to blackmail her for sex.
A Saudi Interior Ministry statement carried in national papers on Saturday says the man broke into the woman’s apartment and attacked her husband before turning on the woman. It was not clear when the attack took place.
The statement says the assailant, who was not identified, was beheaded with a single sword stroke on Friday.
Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery can be executed – usually with a sword.
According to an Associated Press count, Saudi Arabia has executed 31 people so far this year. The kingdom executed 27 people last year. — AP
Now, I am not saying that we should interfere with Saudi’s internal penal system. I am saying why doesn’t this Shad-rake-your-money-off-your-pockets-to-advertise-his-book guy go after the Saudi authorities the way he went after Singapore? Too scared of the oil rich Sheikhs?
That said, where are all the Human Rights activists? Er…where are the feminists? Don’t feminists always complain that wimmin in Saudi get treated unfairly? But this system ensures that any man who dares to rape, or even dares to insult a woman’s modesty, may face death!
I kind of like the idea that the penalty for rape is death. That sure is going to make rapists think many times before he forces himself on any unwilling woman. At the same time, it would also discourage women and girls from pettily claiming that their dates and/or bfs have raped them. Imagine the guilt she has to bear if she wrongly sent him to his death.
As for those who are still against the death penatly in Saudi, let me ask you. Who are you fighting for? The rapist or the victim? This is gonna be one touchy point for the hardcore feminists to ponder too.
